No. 824 is a 500°F (260°C), modified universal oven from Grieve, currently used for housing a vertical conveyor system at the customer’s facility. 9 KW installed in Nichrome wire heating elements, while a 600 CFM, 1/2 HP recirculating blower provides universal airflow to the workload.
This Grieve modified universal oven features 4” insulated walls, aluminum steel exterior, Type 430 stainless steel interior and two (2) 20” wide x 5-1/2” high conveyor access doors installed in oven door. Additional features include safety equipment for handling flammable solvents, including explosion venting door hardware. The oven also features an integral leg stand.
Controls on the No. 824 include a digital indicating temperature controller, manual reset excess temperature controller with separate contactors and recirculating blower airflow safety switch.

Exact Metrology hosted its annual Open House at their Brookfield, Wisconsin location on Thursday, June 6, 2019, from 9 am to 3 pm central standard time. The company is located at 20515 Industry Avenue. Many old clients, as well as new ones, were on hand to learn about the company’s new technologies.
Clients attended several breakout sessions, discussing Polyworks software, Geomagic software and GOM CT scanning.
Jonathan Bourchard, the director of sales and business development at Polyrix, was on hand to talk about both about the company’s scanners and software. According to Bourchard, Polyrix is a 3D scanning system with unique technology based on structured light. The scanner takes images from all angles, so users obtain a 3D image without operator interference. Next, the scan can be compared to a CAD model with Polyworks. Reverse engineering also occurs through Polyworks. Bourchard mentioned that most materials can be scanned except translucent materials and shiny concave surfaces.
One of the companies present at the Open House was Willer Tool Corporation. Steve Keniz, Willer’s quality technician, attended this event to gain more knowledge on Exact Metrology’s new technologies. Keniz mentioned that the company already uses the Romer Absolute Arm and the Surphaser scanner but that they are interested in purchasing more equipment in the future. Regarding this event, Keniz believes the Brookfield Open House provides a great opportunity for networking and getting helpful insights.
3D Parts Unlimited, a printing service bureau, is another Exact Metrology customer. Besides replicating parts, the company also reverse engineers them. Scott Boese, the company’s sales engineer, mentioned that complex parts are sent to Exact Metrology. The parts are scanned and an STEO file is sent. Next, 3D Parts Unlimited prints it and sends it to their customers. Boese expressed interested in GOM and wanted to purchase a Romer Absolute Arm.
Dean Solberg, Exact Metrology’s co-president, said the Open House was meant to introduce clients to new technology in the 3D scanning world. The GOM CT scanner is a high accuracy and high resolution scanner new to the US market. Polyrix’s multiple light systems are activated with a single button and can scan both large and small parts quickly. Solberg was pleased with the companies in attendance, some of which were Mercury Marine, Sub Zero, Komatsu and NH Global. In terms of responses he’s gotten, Solberg mentioned that attendees are always learning something new and that this makes it easier for them to do their job.
The Brookfield office is still expanding. In fact, due to a continuous addition of equipment and capabilities, the space will soon be outgrown. As a result of its expansion, Exact Metrology has added a full-time training professional for Polyworks and Geomagic Design X and several contract inspection specialists.
Looking towards the future, Solberg believes Exact Metrology has several opportunities for entry into new markets. One of these is their role as the only North American distributor of GOM CT scanners. They are also excited about expanding in the Texas market.
Solberg concluded “We are thrilled about the results of the Open House, the attendees and what the attendees learned. We look forward to holding this annual event again and introduce our customers to more and better technology.”

Interwire, the largest and longest-running wire and cable show, took place between May 13 and May 16, at the World Congress Center in Atlanta, Georgia. Guill Tooling & Engineering had quite a turnout at their booth. Company personnel were able share their knowledge and interact with many potential customers.
At booth #1511, Guill was showcasing some of its latest technology. Featured were the in-line 5 layer extrusion crosshead of Series 800, single-point concentricity extrusion crosshead and Bullet II extrusion head.
Guill’s 800 Series is designed to produce the highest quality, highest material-efficient OD tubing for automotive, medical, appliance and industrial applications. This series produces smooth extrusion and layer definition of fluropolymer and other materials for all multi-layer, multi-lumen medical tubing, as well as fuel line constructions, multi-layer PEX pipe and drip irrigation applications.
The single-point concentricity crosshead uses micro-fine adjustment screws for precise concentricity. This adjustment is a unique feature of the company for the extrusion of thin-walled jacketing and precision ID/OD tubing. It not only accepts both vaccum and micro-air accessories, but is also ideal for pressure and sleeving applications.
Introduced in 2015, the Bullet was a new extrusion head with fixed center design, multi-port spiral flow design and gum space adjustment. There was no need for fastening hardware, so cleaning and restart were easier. The Bullet II allows quick tooling changes, as the tips remove from the back and the die removes from the front. Guill’s CAM LOCK® deflector removes and installs the deflector and tip with just half a turn. Hassle free air and vacuum connections are available, in addition to reduced downtime and lowered operating costs. High-volume and low-volume applications are suitable for this crosshead.

Guill Tool & Engineering, Rhode Island, a global manufacturer of extrusion tooling, recently exhibited at Chinaplas. Chinaplas is the world’s leading plastics and rubber tradeshow with over 160,000 visitors from around the globe. The show was held on May 21-24 in Guangzhou, China.
Guill is committed to expanding their business in Asia, and, according to Matt Christofaro, Sales Executive, this effort is one of the main reasons they attended the show. Guill has been seeking additional sales representatives in Asia for the last couple of years and met with a number of promising candidates while at the show. Christofaro discussed the effort to expand in Asia, stating that, “there is definitely huge potential here. Even a fraction of the market share could be huge.” He added that if Guill is serious about doing business in China, they must attend this show every year.
Tom Baldock, Sales Representative Manager, was pleased to have met with some potential Chinese customers that have Guill heads and would like to work directly with Guill as opposed to working through the OEM’s. Baldock said that “there are Chinese companies that want American technology, which is still perceived by many as the best technology available.”
Guill had an interpreter at the booth which enabled them to meet with a number of customers, large and small, in person at the show. This, according to Christofaro, “was great for both parties.” Christofaro also noted that “there are a lot of companies (many Chinese) with very impressive extrusion lines that were making product right there at the show.”
Guill products featured at Chinaplas were mainly medical tubing dies. Also shown was a customer sample of a transitional wound drain tubing. Attendees were impressed by the fact that it can be created using a continuous process. Guill had inquiries about their 5 and 6 layer automotive tubing. Booth panels showed that Guill also makes dies for products in other industries, such as wire & cable, hoses, corrugated tube, pipe, etc.

Wardwell offered a sneak peak of their new 24 carrier Maypole style braiding machine at booth #1306. The braiding machine has an independently driven capstan instead of change gears to vary the pitch. It is also features a driven wind-up mechanism for reels with a flange diameter of up to 14,” which is rarely used on Maypole style units. These two features make the B10 the ideal test machine by combining versatility and low cost. Furthermore, the braiding machine works best in a laboratory environment or an R&D environment because users can test run materials or the size of products.
Another product shown at Wardwell’s booth was the Speedmaster 150, a 10 carrier braiding machine for fine wire and integrated with windup for reels up to 35 mm. Additional features include special lower carriers for fine wire, an enhanced sound enclosure with lights and a fan, as well as an automatic central lube system. Finally, the Speedmaster 150 features a tape attachment and a core run-out sensor.

Expanded Building Area
Centrisys/CNP, Kenosha, Wisconsin today announced the completion of a 34,000 square-foot building expansion, including an upgrade of its balancing equipment with a first-of-its-kind centrifuge balancing bunker in the interior of the building.
The Centrisys/CNP Manufacturing and Service Campus, located in Kenosha, Wisconsin, consists of three buildings totaling 13,000 square feet. In 2016, it became apparent that the capital equipment manufacturing building was running out of workable space and needed an expansion. According to Kopper, “As the decision-making for the extension evolved, the addition of a next-generation balancing machine and bunker was logical. The safety of our employees, along with the assurance that every centrifuge we build and service is balanced correctly, was well worth the added expense.”
Because the balancing bunker is a first-of-its-kind solution, aimed at creating higher safety standards and increasing manufacturing productivity as well as efficiencies, a company committee was formed to design and build the bunker space and determine what equipment would work best.
According to Kopper, “We’ve been doing this type of work for a long time; centrifuge manufacturing and service have been our focus since the beginning. We had a thorough understanding of what we wanted and what the industry needed. Having enough workspace in a shop is important to eliminate errors during the manufacturing process. No one likes to work in a space that’s too crowded.” He added, “Underestimating the power of accurate balancing for a centrifuge is a big mistake. There is a tremendous cost to customers when a centrifuge is not in balance. High vibrations cause premature damage and wear to the centrifuge parts and structural components, creating higher repair costs and unnecessary process downtime.”
Centrisys partnered with Schenck USA Corp. and chose the HM7U for the upgrade. According to Fairbairn, “It has stronger supports and higher dynamic load capabilities; we can balance over- operating speed on machines with a diameter of 44” or greater. We can handle larger and heavier rotors, so this is the natural next step for manufacturing and servicing next generation centrifuges.”
The HM7U has a full range of safety features for all protection classes. The bunker isolates the operator in a protected control area and includes video monitoring to see into the balancing areas without the employee needing to be in proximity to the running equipment. Cranes are installed overhead to place parts and components in the balancing cradles. Fairbairn concluded, “This set- up is something in which our team takes great pride, as it is world-class.”
Commenting on the future of Centrisys, Fairbairn said that the expansion changes were necessary and that the company’s growth “…has allowed us to build larger and greater numbers of centrifuges, along with different types of environmental process equipment. As the only US manufacturer of decanter centrifuges in all environmental dewatering and thickening applications, Kopper stated, “I believe we’ve set the bar high for improved safety, productivity and efficiency. These are all essential to the higher standards we’ve established in our industry.” He added, “I won’t compromise on any of these factors at a Centrisys facility. Our customers shouldn’t ever be required to compromise, either.”

Workspace dimensions of this oven measure 36” W x 36” D x 39” H. 20 KW installed in Incoloy sheathed tubular heating elements, while a 1000 CFM, 1-1/2 HP recirculating blower provides horizontal airflow to the workload.
This Grieve clean room cabinet oven features 4” insulated walls, Type 304, 2B finish stainless steel interior with continuously backwelded seams and exterior finished with white epoxy paint. Oven features include #4 brushed stainless steel door cover and control panel face. Additional features include safety equipment for handling flammable solvent including explosion venting door hardware and 30” x 24” x 6” thick stainless steel high temperature HEPA recirculating filter.
Controls on the No. 797 include a digital indicating, programming temperature controller and SCR power controller.
