E-Z LOK, a leading manufacturer and master distributor of threaded inserts for metal, plastic and wood has created a drive tool assortment kit containing a variety of sizes.

While these drive tools were already offered individually, as well as in insert kits, this new offering brings everything together in one kit. According to Kyle Lindsly-Roach, Director of Sales & Marketing, “We decided to offer this assortment kit based on customer feedback indicating that having all of the sizes in one package would be highly beneficial.”

Made from steel, these tools are used to install slotted E-Z LOK threaded inserts like Solid Wall inserts for metal and Knife Thread inserts for wood. Furthermore, all drive tools in the assortment kit fit in standard power tools. Kit drivers can be used to install inserts with internal threads from #6 to 3/4 and M3 to M16. They’re ideal for maintenance departments, machine shops and manufacturing facilities.

Regarding the importance of this product launch, Lindsly-Roach said, “We hope that it will offer an easier way for our customers to access all of the tools needed to install our Solid Wall and Knife Thread inserts in one place.”

The drive tool assortment kit will be available for sale early next year through E-Z LOK’s distribution partners.

Grant Govel

A graduate of Penn State University, he received his Bachelor of Science in Business Economics. He has a unique 30+ year blend of technology (hardware and software), finance, marketing and industrial experience, with substantial experience in new business generation and client retention.

Throughout his career, Govel honed his sales and customer service skills in various industries including computers, scrap metal, paving and lighting. His responsibilities included finding new customers (through cold calls, emails and networking), acting as the first point of contact for customers, developing proposals, managing inventory and closing the deal.

In his role at E-Z LOK, Govel mostly enjoys, “… interacting with clients and prospects [and] helping them find solutions and savings to their manufacturing needs.”

E-Z LOK, a leading manufacturer and master distributor of threaded inserts for metal, plastic and wood has expanded its E-Z Press™ line with stainless steel and brass inserts, while E-Z Sonic™ added stainless steel inserts.

These inserts are designed for post-molding installation in thermoplastic materials such as:  acrylic, polypropylene and PVC. Features include tapered or straight designs, installation with a heat drive or ultrasonic horn, superior torque and pull-out resistance, inch or metric threads, tapered design and single vane and straight design in flush or flanged configuration.

E-Z Sonic™ heat staking inserts for thermoplastics work well with 3D printing applications and products made from similar materials. They require heat generation to melt the plastic around the insert for proper installation. Meanwhile, E-Z Press™ threaded inserts for plastic are designed for both thermoset plastics and thermoplastics.  Available in flush, flanged and reverse slot, they are created specifically for “cold” installation using anything from a rubber mallet to an arbor press.

Straight E-Z Sonic™ Ultrasonic inserts allow for thinner boss walls. Flush heat stake permits installation even with or below the material surface, while flanged inserts are ideal for electrical connections or for additional pull-out resistance in reverse installations. Furthermore, E-Z Sonic™ straight ultrasonic threaded inserts feature a lead-in pilot to facilitate installation and are available from #2 to 3/8.

Tapered E-Z Sonic™ Ultrasonic inserts are designed to reduce installation time, particularly in production runs, while maintaining outstanding performance characteristics.  Internal threads from #2 to 3/8 and M2.5 to M6 are available.

According to Director of Sales & Marketing, Kyle Lindsly-Roach, “We decided several years ago that bringing LOCTITE® application in-house would allow us to more efficiently and cost effectively apply the coating.” E-Z LOK purchased the machine nine months ago. It applies LOCTITE® to the external threads of the solid wall inserts, which proceed through a curing oven. Afterwards, the inserts are ready to use.

Having the machine at E-Z LOK’s Gardena, California headquarters, brings several benefits. Not only does the company save time by no longer using outside processers but they can apply the LOCTITE® in a semi-automated fashion, thus increasing their throughput.

Discussing its importance, Lindsly-Roach said, “LOCTITE® is an integral part of our company’s hallmark E-Z LOK inserts for metal, as it is this adhesive that holds the insert in place once installed.”

E-Z LOK, a leading manufacturer and master distributor of threaded inserts for metal, plastic and wood, recently attended the Specialty Tools & Fasteners Distributors Association (STAFDA) convention, November 10-12, in Nashville, Tennessee. Bringing together industrial supply chain and construction leaders, the yearly convention connects members who participate in educational programs and seminars. The trade show attracts leading manufacturing, distribution and representative agencies within the industry.

The company exhibited a variety of inserts for metal, wood and plastic, as well as all of the accompanying kits for these inserts. Given that STAFDA is a member-only show and the only one that some E-Z LOK customers attend, the products are very niche and not often used.

Kyle Lindsly-Roach, Director of Sales & Marketing, was pleased with the show. “Overall, the show was good, although booth traffic was down compared to last year. However, we did have some good conversations, and several high-quality connections were made.”

Regarding his expectations for next year, Lindsly-Roach said, “We hope the next show continues to bring opportunities for us to connect with current and potential distributors for our products.”

E-Z LOK, a leading manufacturer and master distributor of threaded inserts for metal, plastic and wood, just announced it will begin to build out a portfolio of both pull-out and torque out test data for the inserts it offers.  The announcement was made by Kyle Lindsly-Roach, Director of Sales & Marketing at the company’s Gardena, California headquarters.

The company’s initial plan was to use a third-party lab to test the performance of E-Z LOK inserts in various materials. However, E-Z LOK ultimately decided it would be more cost effective and beneficial if they brought the testing equipment in-house because it allows them to complete testing at their own pace, as well as perform testing on future products. This decision was made in the first quarter of 2024 as a way for the company to build a more complete library of test data for their users.  Carver Engineering/Labs in El Cajon, California is building the machines, which are up and running at E-Z LOK as of early October 2024.

Insert pull-out strength is tested by installation in various test blocks of materials (plastic, wood or metal) and threading a bolt into the insert. Then, the bolt is pulled upwards until the insert is pulled out of the material. The insert testing machine records the value. The torque out machine measures the torque the insert can withstand before spinning out of the material, breaking the fastener or stripping the threads of the insert.

Available on the E-Z LOK website, the data will be housed under the “Resources” section with links for specific product groups. Additionally, the company will create PDFs of the testing data on a product group basis.

Commenting on its significance, Kyle Lindsly-Roach, Director of Sales & Marketing said, “It is a great resource that helps engineers and customers who are designing bolted joints, and want to know the approximate pull-out and torque values they could expect to see in their applications.”

Also known as Finserts, these threaded inserts provide robust, metal threads in softwood materials. They are capable of distributing stress over a greater surface area, which allows for permanent fastening that minimizes the possibility of thread erosion.  Simply press the inserts into place and the OD fins grip the wall of the hole and lock in place.
