Grieve Mourns the Loss of Pat Calabrese

 

P.J. “Pat” Calabrese

The entire family of The Grieve Corporation mourns the loss of its longtime President, P.J. “Pat” Calabrese, who died on February 17, 2018 in Lake Forest, Illinois at the age of 90.  Pat was the President of Grieve, a world leader in industrial ovens and furnaces, from 1958 until his retirement in 2008.  He worked closely with the company’s founder, Price Grieve.  Pat’s son Frank is currently the VP of Sales & Marketing, while Price’s son Doug is the President and CEO of the company, founded by Mr. Grieve in 1949.

Pat was born in Chicago, graduated in 1949 from the University of Illinois with a BS in Mechanical Engineering and was awarded that school’s prestigious Distinguished Alumni Award in 2001.  He also held a number of positions with various industrial, business and Catholic charitable organizations.

Pat began his career at Grieve in 1958 as National Sales Manager, becoming President in 1968 and finally Chairman in 2006, following the death of Mr. Grieve.  During his tenure as President, the company grew steadily to become a global supplier of heat processing equipment for virtually every industry in every industrialized country in the world.

750°F Gas-Fired Cabinet Oven from Grieve

No. 1046 is a 750°F (399°C), gas-fired cabinet oven from Grieve, currently used for baking radiator cores at the customer’s facility. Workspace dimensions of this oven measure 80” W x 88” D x 18” H. 800,000 BTU/HR are installed in a modulating natural gas burner, while a 12,500 CFM, 10 HP recirculating blower provides vertical upward airflow to the workload.

This Grieve cabinet oven has a 76” wide x 76” long, 750 lb. capacity pneumatic operated rollout shelf with an insulated plug to seal doorway opening. Features include 8” insulated walls, top-mounted heat chamber and 16-gauge, Type 316, 2B finish stainless steel interior with continuously welded seams.

Additional features include a 16-gauge, 304 stainless steel oven front with a pneumatically operated vertical lift door, an exhaust hood incorporated into the vertical lift door guard and a 1500 CFM powered forced exhauster with motorized damper to increase exhaust as the door is opened. The oven is equipped with safety equipment required by IRI, FM and National Fire Protection Association Standard 86 for operation with flammable solvents.

Controls on the No. 1046 include a digital programming temperature controller, manual reset excess temperature controller with separate contactors and a recirculating blower airflow safety switch.

2000°F Inert Atmosphere Bench Furnace from Grieve

 

2000°F Inert Atmosphere Bench Furnace from GrieveNo. 1044 is a 2000°F (1093°C), inert atmosphere bench furnace from Grieve, currently used for heat treating at the customer’s facility. Workspace dimensions of this furnace measure 12” W x 18” D x 8” H. 6KW are installed in nickel chrome wire coils supported by ceramic plates.

This Grieve bench furnace features 5” thick insulated walls comprised of 1” of 2600°F ceramic fiber and 1” of 2300°F ceramic fiber and 3” of 1900°F block insulation. Features include a vertical lift door with gas spring counter balance and inert atmosphere construction, including a continuously welded outer shell, high temperature door gasket, sealed heater terminal boxes, inert atmosphere inlet and inert atmosphere outlet. Additional features include an inert atmosphere flow meter and normally closed solenoid valve on atmosphere inlet.

1000°F Top Loading Oven from Grieve

No. 895 is a 1000°F (538°C), top loading oven from Grieve, currently used for curing composite materials in large molds at the customer’s facility. Workspace dimensions of this oven measure 168” W x 48” D x 48” H. 120 KW are installed in lncoloy sheathed tubular heating elements, while a 12,500 CFM, 10-HP recirculating blower provides horizontal airflow.

This Grieve top-loading oven features 8” thick insulated walls comprising 2” of 1900°F block and 6” of 10 lb./cf density rockwool. Other features include aluminized steel exterior, Type 304, 2B finish stainless steel interior, reinforced ¼” steel plate top, air-operated rear hinged door and wear bars at sides of workspace. Floor of workspace is reinforced for 4000 lbs. loading at removable stainless steel subway grates. Oven also features 325 CFM powered forced exhauster and access ports to allow monitoring of mold during injection.

Controls on No. 895 include a digital programming temperature controller, manual reset excess temperature controller with separate contactors, recirculating blower airflow safety switch and SCR power controller.

550°F Shelf Oven from Grieve

Grieve Shelf OvenNo. 859 is a 550°F (288°C), shelf oven from Grieve, currently used for drying powdered resin in trays at the customer’s facility. Workspace dimensions of this oven measure 44” W x 30” D x 60” H. 12 KW are installed in Nichrome wire heating elements, while a 1000 CFM, 1-HP recirculating blower provides horizontal airflow to the workload.

This Grieve oven has 4” insulated walls, Type 430 stainless steel interior and 4 independent doors for access to workspace, each opening 20-1/2” wide x 28-1/2” high. Features include 32 trays 19” wide x 29” long x 2-1/2” deep, a weekly timer to start and stop oven and a digital timer for each compartment with button and pilot light to indicate end of cycle.

Controls on the No. 859 include a digital indicating temperature controller, manual reset excess temperature controller with separate contactors, recirculating blower air flow safety switch and a 10” diameter circular chart recorder.

belt conveyor oven currently used for curing sealant on filters at the customer’s facilityNo. 892 is a 500°F (260°C), electrically heated belt conveyor oven from Grieve, currently used for curing sealant on filters at the customer’s facility. Workspace dimensions of this oven measure 18” W x 32” D x 26” H. 36 KW are installed in Nichrome wire heating elements, while a 1500 CFM, 11/2-HP recirculating blower provides vertical downward airflow to the workload.

This Grieve belt conveyor oven has an 18” long open belt loading zone and a 24” long open unloading zone. Features include a 12” long insulated, unheated entrance vestibule, 32” long insulated heat zone with recirculated airflow and 12” long insulated, unheated exit vestibule. Additional features include 12” wide, 1” x 1” stainless steel flat wire conveyor belt with 1/4-HP motor drive, variable from 0.6 to 11.7 inches per minute, 4” insulated walls and aluminized steel interior and exterior. The oven also has an integral leg stand with casters.

Controls on the No. 892 include a digital indicating temperature controller, 10” diameter circular chart recorder and SCR power controller.

No. 994 is a 500°F (260°C) special cabinet oven from Grieve, currently used for heating the end of long parts at the customer’s facility. Workspace dimensions of this oven are a tapered 10” at front and 20” at rear wide x 20” deep x 21” high.  9KW are installed in Nichrome wire heating elements, while a 600 CFM, ½-HP recirculating blower provides vertical upward airflow to the workload.

This Grieve cabinet oven has 4” insulated walls and an aluminized steel interior and exterior. Features also include safety equipment for handling flammable solvents, including explosion venting door hardware.

Controls on No. 994 include all applicable NEMA 12 electrical standards and a tower light to indicate machine status.

Workspace dimensions of this oven measure 20” W x 20” D x 20” H.  100,000 BTU/HR are installed in a modulating gas burner, while a 600 CFM, ½-HP recirculating blower provides horizontal airflow to the workload.

This Grieve oven has 6” insulated walls, an aluminized steel exterior and Type 430 stainless steel interior. The oven features a 12”wide x 8” high door installed in main door. Additional safety features include those required by IRI, FM and National Fire Protection Association Standard 86 for gas heated equipment, including a 325 CFM, ½-HP powered forced exhauster.

Controls on the No. 843 include a digital indicating temperature controller.

Workspace dimensions of this oven measure 30” W x 18’ D x 15” H. 90KW (30 KW per zone) are installed in Incoloy sheathed tubular heating elements, while three 1500 CFM, 1-1/2 HP recirculating blowers provide vertical downward airflow to the workload.

This Grieve conveyor oven has a 4’ long open belt loading zone and 4’ long open unloading zone. Features include three 6’ long insulated heat zones with independent recirculated airflow and temperature control, 6” insulated walls and aluminized steel exterior. Type 304, 2B finish stainless steel interior with continuously backwelded seams. Additional features include 24” wide, 1” x 1” 304 stainless steel flat wire conveyor belt with ½ HP motor drive, variable from 0.1 to 2 feet per minute. The oven is sectioned into five pieces for shipping. The oven has safety equipment for handling flammable solvents, including explosion venting door hardware.
